Loss of flavor
« on: April 05, 2011, 12:10:09 PM »
So I'm a week in and have a good handle on things (i think), but starting yesterday I seem to be losing my flavor. I mixed a new batch of cola and headed out to work. On the drive there I got maybe four good vapes and then I couldn't taste it anymore. I still get an after taste effect on the exhale, but the initial draw is like vapeing straight PG or VG I still have a decent throat hit due to the nic content but It was not the pleasant experience i'm used to.
At first I assumed that I screwed something up in the new batch of cola. Although I used the same recipe, I did scale it up on this mix as I had pretty much found my sweet spot in reguards to flavor, vape and strength. When I got home I switched to an old batch of cherry that I had made a few days ago and had vaped on for more than a day. Same thing a few good hits and then nothing. I still get the same throat hit and vapor production, I just cant taste it.
I cleaned out all my carts, and I have cleaned my attys twice. Once with boiling water and once with diet coke. Could I possably not be cleanning them properly. I've read alot of threads about attys messing up and not producing good vapor or a bad taste but never NO taste. I'm confused. Maybe its me, maybe all those years of smoking have screwed up my taste buds. lol. IDK. Anybody else ever have this problem?

Well if thats it hope it doesn't last too long, because it has really put me off vaping today as Its causing a little bit of nausea.
I guess its better than $100+ of messed up equiptment or fluids though.

Well you are lucky.  My taste did not disappear until about three months in.  And it last a little over a month.  It came back very very slowly but it did come back.  So you just got to hang in there.   ;D

You will find if you vape the same flavour continuosly your tastebuds just gets used to the flavour,  if you switch to a different flavour for a while and then go back to the previous flavour,  the taste should be back  ;)

I vape the same flavour continuously,  not one for swapping flavours,  just do it now and again to refresh the taste of my chosen daily vape,  which currently is state express mixed with apple  ;D

That's why I usually switch between at least 5 or 6 flavors throughout the day, and still, by the end of the day I can't really taste any of them. ???  But the next morning, the first few vapes of each flavor is great. :)  Like Horsemen, I my sense of taste continues to change.  For a while I had to cut down on the flavor concentrate percentage in my mixes, then for a bit I could barely taste anything (food was ok but, but I had trouble tasting anything I was vaping).  Fortunately it didn't last as long as it did for Horsemen.  So as Horsemen said, just try to hang it there Aspie~dude.  It'll get better. :)

I'm also having the same problem with little or no taste and thought it was something i was doing being fairly new to vaping/mixing.
I started with the red label juice and i could really taste all the flavours, loved the cherry ;D the nic level in them was too high at 36, so i thinned it down by 50% and still got a fair flavour.
I decided to start mixing my own, I got all my mixing stuff, DV flavours (Blackcurrant, black cherry, cherry cheroot, orange blossom and red currant), AG and PI nic. since i started mixing from scratch it just tastes bitter/burnt  :( I tried all different mix ratios etc. but still was bad.
glad to hear its normal and hope it doesnt last long cos it tastes discusting  :P

normal people worry me

Bit of an update. I think my problem was a mixture of everything. A lot of it is my taste buds just going haywire, but I think part of it was my attys. I started using an alcohol bath and occasionally some boiling water and its working better. I just don't think the diet coke bath does very much. Another problem I found was that the last time I diluted my VG I think I may have grabbed my jug of drinking water instead of distilled water. Drinking water is just tap water in a jug (most of them anyways) and I hear thats not so good on an atty either. I only mix up a 5ml bottle of this, so I threw that mix out and made a new one. On my last order I got some new attys and batts. When it got here, I hooked up a new atty, and it made a big difference. Oh, and I think the nausea I experienced that day was partly due to a heavy mix of VG. The vape was so thick and combined with no flavor, it just didn't set well with me. So with some new attys and some cleaner attys and my taste buds slowly comming back around and everything else, I seem to be back on track. Thanks again for the help everyone!

Glad things are getting better for you there.  From the recipe post you made, and the recipe looks delicious by the way, your taste buds like cherry anyway!  ;)
