How long do e-cig cartomizer last?
« on: May 24, 2013, 09:00:47 AM »
It says they are 'for single use' but does that mean you can smoke it for 10mins and then can't use them again?

I'm thinking about trying out a Microlite Cartomizer Kit, before eventually moving on to an Odyssey or Tornado eGo, but want to know the realistic costs per month.

I currently smoke about 7 rollies a day.

Thanks,
j

Welcome to the forum JK.

The iClear cartomizerz last quite a while. I use this one every couple day and let friends use it. I've gotten a couple hundred puffs out of it so far and it's still going strong. Refilled 3 times. Great value and performance for just a couple bucks. ;)

When cartomizers were first designed, they were designed to be used once (one filling of the cartomizer, not one vaping session), then discarded. In actuality they can be refilled several times, but most cartomizer makers still label them for one time use for legal reasons, and so you can't complain about only getting 3 refills on one, etc. When using a cartomizer in a tank system like the Odyssey uses the cartomizer life is usually extended quite  a bit from vaping a cartomizer by itself.

I wouldn't recommend the odyssey but I would recommend the tornado ego battery & an RCS tank.

I go through around 1 oddy carto every 1-2 weeks so thats about 5-10 per month, if you go with the tornado and an rcs tank then you'll get loads more usage from the atty's that they use, some report that theirs last for 3-4 weeks others claim 3-4 months maybe even more! and the atty's for the rcs tanks are also cheaper than the carto's for the oddy plus you'll get a much better vape from the tornado setup than what you will from the oddy setup.

And how exactly do you get the boges carts to last 2 weeks?? Im lucky to get 5-7 days, and by then its nothing like the quality of day 1. I would estimate I go through 5ml/day.  Currently, I'm taking time off from the boges DC and trying out K1 DC VIVI NOVA. Im averaging 3 days per atti on those, but the quality of vape is much higher than the boges DC, so the tradeoff seems better. I do make my own liquid, but its all USP grade and usually 70pg/30vg base with 10ish % flavor @ 18mg, so I dont think its the juice. I'm also very careful about priming and still manage to get dry hits sometimes...Any thoughts?

Boges
I always prime for 30-40 minutes. I never let the tank run lower than 2/3 empty. I use the normal 14500 batteries (high and reg drain). I take 3-4 second draws so as not to "over-burn" the cart. I frequently dry hit the cart to ensure that I keep it fully saturated. I get about 3-5 tank refils in and they start tasting -less than stellar- and the throat hit diminishes about 50% by day 3ish.
K1 DC Vivi Nova
After the third day, i notice bad tasting atomiser hits frequently. Almost like the wick isnt drawing enough liquid to the atomiser to feed the element. I rinse the wicks off and there is a slight brown tint where they were centered up with the element, but as previously stated, I'm very anal about priming. Nearly every time I take a hit, I will dry hit it to make sure the wicks retain liquid for the next time I hit it. If I pull the wicks slightly to one side after cleaning them, they are still usable on the fresh wick side, but i really would've hoped they'd have last longer.

Im on the 4th tip for the nova in just under 2 weeks, and 2 of the previous ones have had these weird problems that hopefully someone can shed some light on. For the first 2 days, they seemed to work ok, but entering day 3, they didnt make contact with the power source all the time. To elaborate, heres my setup. I keep the cigarette in the TW laniard pouch, but I keep it upside down because the odessey button sticks too hard for me to turn every time I'm ready to hit it. Day 3 ish hits and I'll be vaping as normal, then pull out the cig and try to hit, but nothing happens. Unscrew the atomiser, re-tighten, still nothing. I've found that if I tap it against my hand a few times, it fixes whatever is amiss, and I can vape again, then back in the pouch it goes. 5 min later, theres a 50% chance that it'll happen again.

I do consider myself an above average vaper, somedays vaping upwards of 10 ml, so day 3 has probably seen an average consumption of 20-25ml. Does anyone reading have an educated guess at how many ml a boges cart or K1 DC tip should vape before it wears out? I'm using the high drain 14500 most of the time, so the atomiser and power output should match. I never vape for longer than 3-4 seconds at a time, so I don't think I'm burning the wick because of long draws. Also, because I use the laniard pouch, I've never dropped the cig, so all of it's components should be in perfect working order.

I've just had a boge carto last me 3 weeks, ok the taste wasn't great after all that time but it still worked well enough to warrant leaving in.

I also do just about everything differently to you, I prime using the 2 cap method & it takes less than a minute then fill the tank and vape straight away I don't let it sit at all. I frequently let the tank run dry, just to the point where it shows the first signs of a burning taste before I refill it. I take long draws 6-8 secs and never take dry hits, the only time I take a dry hit is after priming to initiate the first bit of fluid from the tank. I get through roughly 1 & a half tanks a day and only notice a difference in taste and throat hit after about 7 days but its nothing major so usually leave it for another week.

I only use the boges with a tornado twist battery set around 4.2 volts and never with the odyssey battery as "in my opinion" it's $h1te! also I never change flavours with the boges as I tried this once and it completely ruined it, I have 3 oddy tanks already and another 3 on their way and keep a different flavour in each one they are the best tank I've used so far and I'll continue to use them until I find something better  ;)
