Black Pepper
« on: December 01, 2012, 06:19:29 AM »
Hi all

in my search for a decent throat hit with 0mg Nic I came across the idea that vaping a Black Pepper tincture could help in more ways than one. See the following report from the mid 90's

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8033760

"Previous studies have suggested that sensory cues associated with cigarette smoking can suppress certain smoking withdrawal symptoms, including craving for cigarettes. In this study we investigated the subjective effects of a cigarette substitute delivering a vapor of black pepper essential oil. Forty-eight cigarette smokers participated in a 3-h session conducted after overnight deprivation from smoking. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: one group of smokers puffed on a device that delivered a vapor from essential oil of black pepper; a second group puffed on the device with a mint/menthol cartridge, and a third group used a device containing an empty cartridge. Subjects puffed and inhaled ad libitum from the device throughout the session during which no smoking was allowed. Reported craving for cigarettes was significantly reduced in the pepper condition relative to each of the two control conditions. In addition, negative affect and somatic symptoms of anxiety were alleviated in the pepper condition relative to the unflavored placebo. The intensity of sensations in the chest was also significantly higher for the pepper condition. These results support the view that respiratory tract sensations are important in alleviating smoking withdrawal symptoms. Cigarette substitutes delivering pepper constituents may prove useful in smoking cessation treatment."

My apologies if this post has gone against any guidelines for this forum, my intention is not to get involved in the politics of Vaping and or Smoking.

All I know is that in order for me to discover a viable alternative to smoking I have been on a quest which lead me to the Vaping community.
Now my next aim is to reduce my nicotine  intake levels which I have successfully done over the past 2 weeks no nicotine at all without any withdrawal symptoms.
However the physical enjoyment of Vaping/Smoking is now lacking to some extent so therefore I am on a quest to find out how to gain back some of the sensations of smoking which we have commonly come to call throat hit but which in effect is much more.
The study I referred to in the OP was done as early as 1994 and it was noted that the respiratory sensation is indeed an important part of smoking, and my quest is to mimic or replicate the sensation using zero nicotine then I will be happy.

As a matter of interest there are a number of other studies which looked at citric acid, and ascorbic acid (Vit C) demonstating to some extent that these also had a positive outcome in the tests that were conducted at the time.

So perhaps a Black Pepper and Lime flavour is one to try?

I was following a thread on another forum where people had tried this. Different people had different results. Some were satisfied and others weren't. I haven't got around to trying it myself but plan to soon. Mean while, here is a great video I came across (different not black pepper, but same theory)

Now that is THROAT HIT.

......................Just gonna go plant some chilli peppers   :o

Seriously let us know if you do try adding Black Pepper, I intend to try out a variety of small batches including the use of Black and White ground Peppers along side a multitude of citrus type flavours from various suppliers.

I was actually planning on putting whole peppercorns in a bottle of warm pg and letting it steep for some time. Then filtering it. I don't know if that will work as intended, but I figure its not a bad starting point. I want to be able to easily reproduce it with some accuracy. For example: 12 peppercorns per 10ml pg and so on.
