My apologies if this post has gone against any guidelines for this forum, my intention is not to get involved in the politics of Vaping and or Smoking.
All I know is that in order for me to discover a viable alternative to smoking I have been on a quest which lead me to the Vaping community.
Now my next aim is to reduce my nicotine intake levels which I have successfully done over the past 2 weeks no nicotine at all without any withdrawal symptoms.
However the physical enjoyment of Vaping/Smoking is now lacking to some extent so therefore I am on a quest to find out how to gain back some of the sensations of smoking which we have commonly come to call throat hit but which in effect is much more.
The study I referred to in the OP was done as early as 1994 and it was noted that the respiratory sensation is indeed an important part of smoking, and my quest is to mimic or replicate the sensation using zero nicotine then I will be happy.
As a matter of interest there are a number of other studies which looked at citric acid, and ascorbic acid (Vit C) demonstating to some extent that these also had a positive outcome in the tests that were conducted at the time.
So perhaps a Black Pepper and Lime flavour is one to try?
