36mg Too strong
« on: November 16, 2011, 03:24:45 AM »
I ordered 36mg premixed by mistake and it's far too strong!!!!
Got a few flavoured and a few flavourless.
Any advice on how to lower it?
Thanks in advance from a newbie

I started writing one of my rambling, long-winded replies to this question, then hit the wrong button and lost the whole thing when I was almost finished >:( ...... and thank god I did. ;D  Knoton's said it much better than I would have. :)  And given you all the links you need too (well done mate)!

I highly recommend you start by reading the thread in that first link (Bodhii's mixing 101 guide).  Excellent stuff that.  After a peruse of that please post back if you have any questions.

Oh, and welcome to the forum Angelardn,

Nick :)

How would I reduce even lower than 22?
No idea what I was thinking ordering such a high concentrate

I meant as in if I dilute with PG or VG will that reduce it.
This is what's confusing me the most :s

Yes, you can use either PG or VG (or a combination of both).  PG will add throat hit but isn't good on vapor production.  VG is great at producing vapor but has no throat hit, and it adds a bit of sweetness to your mix, which some like and some don't.

Using "Knoton's Mixing Helper"  (thanks Knoton!), just enter 36mg in the box where it asks for "Nicotinebase", then enter your desired nicotine level (what you want to end up with) in the box for "Nicotine Strength".  And lastly, enter the amount of eliquid you want to make (e.g. 5ml) in the box for "Amount".  Leave the "2nd Diluent" and "Flavor" boxes blank (or enter 0) for now.  If you know the amount of drops per ml that your dropper will provide, you can enter it in the box for "Drops per ml", or just leave it at 20 if you don't know.

Now on the right you'll see how much of your 36mg eliquid to use, and how much of diluent (PG, VG, or a mix of both) to use in order for you to end up with the nic strength you've told the calculator you want to end up with. :D  If you do decide to add flavor back in, just enter the percent of flavor you want to add to the final mix in the "Flavour" box and you'll see it reduce the "Diluent" quantity on the right by the same quantity of flavor that it adds, thus keeping the nic strength of your final mix at the level you're looking for. :)

So a 0 nic of the same flavor would cut it down the 36 to an 18. Cutting the 18 with the 0 would be 9.

I did the same thing but I meant to but am finding it way too strong to vape all day.

Well, if your mixing with a 0mg juice 50/50, then yes, it will cut the nic strength in half.  But remember, unless you're using a flavored 0mg eliquid to mix with, it will cut the flavor in half too. :o  If you use a mixing calculator you can just enter the strength of your premixed eliquid, then enter the target strength for your final mix, and follow the recipe it gives you.  That way you can mix down to any strength you like instead of only cutting it in half.  And if you aren't using a flavored eliquid to mix with you can add flavor back in if you like.  Either the same flavor as you're starting with (if it's a flavor that has a flavor concentrate available) or a flavor you think will complement the flavor of your pre-mix juice.  And remember to start out with small amounts first.  Once you have a recipe that you like you can scale it up to any quantity you want. :)

Premix flavours are about 15% on average I believe!?

I'm not a purist with maths when mixing... I have a 'that will do' attitude. But given how most people value the throat hit vs vapour attitude, I'd go for around 80:20 PG to VG. Most flavour concentrates are PG, so I'd go for mixing:

15% Flavour
65% PG
20% VG/AG

If you want to cut in half go 50/50 nic free to premix. If you want to dilute further then... well, the math shouldn't be too bad from there - and don't be afraid of the 'that's pretty much right' approach. It doesn't always have to be a 100% science/math dilemma to solve ;)
