Can vaping make you put on weight ?
« on: December 25, 2011, 08:24:24 PM »
Asking for obvious reasons......

Just wondering if,as Glycerin/Glycerol are sugars, they could have any part to play in weight gain as I have put on a few (!) pounds since I started. I know that food tastes better now etc,but my diet hasn't changed, nor how much I eat,but the pounds are going on.

Any thoughts ?

G'day.  When you give up the fags, your metabalism changes.  Smoking standard smokes burns many calories as your body works to rid all of the nasties.  This includes nicotine. Chances are if you quit completely (no fags or e cigs) you'd be putting on more weight.

Depending on makeup, a third of people lose weight, a third put on weight and a half remain the same when quiting standard smokes.

Hope this helps.

I hardly think this has anything to do with a homosexual life style lol

Just kidding =P

I think your LB's has more to do with you just being you then anything.. With e-cigs you are right where you where before you "switched" ;P

Your diet has changed... you know it has but you are looking for something that just isn't there =P

Don'y worry... you can do the things you need to get fit. Or you can be like the rest of us..

If you vape 5ml a day (which is a lot), you are vaping less that a teaspoon of glycerin a day, which is in no way enough to cause any weight gain. Chances are you're eating more without realising because food tastes so much better...

Well, for me, to start with, food tasted so much better, may have gained the odd 2lb or so, but. "given up" in the past, and put on 6lb. Then thought, what's the point, and carried on.   Now, I don't think that, no anxiety, no frustration, i'll be the weight I am, if I loose weight, bonus. But I'm not Hung up on it anymore. I feel better, that's what matters.   ;D

I've come back to add that I actually weight the same now as I did when I started vaping. Naturally ups and downs inbetween, we all do, but still the same now.   ;D

I've been built like a giraffe all my life, but having started vaping a year ago, I have put on over 2 stone, all on the stomach region. I put this down to stopping the fags.

when you give up smoking the way you process food changes its slower as in your metabolism
now i don't want to sound offensive but its like this, the body is a machine, if you feed it more than you burn you put weight on
its that simple, really it is, burn more you lose weight can you see a pattern forming
vaping has little to do with it, about as much as painting your nails in fact

There was a stretch about a week after my last cigarette where every single dinner my wife cooked was "The best meal I ever ate"

Thanks for the replies - it was just a thought really, not trying to pin it on vaping particularly.

Guess I will have to get up off my lardy arse more often and feel some pain  ;)

Could be an age thing....

When I was in my twenties I would never let my weight go above 12st ...and found it very easy be keep around this...then it got harder in my thirties....so thought 13st was ok.....now in my mid forties I have to exercise more than I ever have and be a bit careful on what I eat and drink to keep around 13.5 st......

Defo a age thing am 37 now, as every decade goes by I seem to put on 5 stone. So new years resolution is to be a fat git and don't worry about it, not told the wife yet so might have to change the attitude.

Too be honest I am not bothered about the "old fat git" thing....it's the clothes....

When I gave in to the 13.5st weight I had to start buying new jeans....am a Levis fan.....and they are bloody expensive..... :)

Hi Puff....

Going swimming tomorrow.... may need to do quite a few lengths to burn off the Christmas dinner !!

My sister bought me a couple of pairs of jogging bottoms for Christmas as I am always complaining that I have no real "slobbing out clothes"... by the looks of them and the elasticated waste bands I could quite happily eat several hundred christmas dinners and still be comfy in them  :D

Sorry, did not recognise you had posted after me..... dont want to alarm you but there is a scary red dragon where the pic used to be  :(

its age all right but also how busy we are
a little back ground
in my teens i studied karate and as time went on i got into English full contract karate (an early form of kick boxing) then that progressed into Thai Boxing
as time went on i set up 3 Thai boxing gyms and became heavily involved in the fight circuit, be it fighting, training or corner-man
my fighting weight was around 14 to 14 1/2 stone depending on who and what i would fight in
i stopped fighting at 36 as it hurt not only for a day or two after but for a week or two, at 39 i handed the gyms over to my best mate (who set them up with me) dedicating my time to family and work
at 40 i stopped training, started smoking more, drank more beer and enjoyed the bad things in life like to many curries, chinese food and more beer
it took just 2 short years to balloon to 16 plus stone and loose a fair bit of muscle shaping. so a year ago i took control and started with the healthier eating,
stopped smoking (hence me being here) and now im about to take the step back into the world of Thai boxing
i have been offered a veterans fight in may and im yet to decide what to do, my brain says yes my body says are you mad

my point is thats its hard to stay fit at any age but the older we are the more complacent we get and the busier we are, we have to work, ferry kids about, eat (how easy is it to get a take away) walk the dog, clean the rabbit out, visit auntie Joan and jet wash the guttering out, what time do most of us get to exercise and pick our own organic
strawberries and cut the fat of our bacon?
its life style and all the pressures that it brings, any way must dash its Indian take away for tea tonight ;)

This gonna sound strange for you.
But I envy you your problems of gaining weight.
I have to eat like a teenager full of  hormons and always hungry to gain weight.
And at least 75% of that comes on my stomach.
So my pants size vary from 29-33 !?
Its driving me crazy!
My new meds take a lot of my appetite, think I dropped like 10-15 kilo.
And I was skinny before  :-[
Me and my "metabolism" are not friends at all.

Oh by the way, what is a "stone" ?

A stone is something you should never throw in a greenhouse.......

Now, that will get you thinking :-)...

Sorry Ken...

It's a unit of weight we use in regard to how much we weigh...... 1 stone is equal to approx 6.35 kilo

Lol Ken, it's part of our, entirely intuitive and logical, pre-decimalisation system of weights and measures....... 16 drams to the ounce, 16 ounces to the pound, 14 pounds to the stone, two stones to the quarter, four quarters to the hundredweight and twenty hundredweight to the ton. Why they ever did away with it in common usage I'll NEVER know!  :o

Stevie...

I wondered that myself....why on earth would we want to swap that old system for one that makes sense and makes everything so much easier to work out....

Strange thing is that in some areas of English life the old ones are still used....I find that soft wood is ordered in metric but hard wood is feet and inches.....there are more..... But too much cider and a good movie has blocked my brain at the moment...

I know you can put on weight by eating, but I wouldn't think that you can put on weight by inhaling.
