0mg nicotine?
« on: September 27, 2011, 02:22:03 PM »
Hi all, I am new here and wondering if anyone can help me.

My dad has come out of hospital today after being in a respiratory ward for the last month, in large part due to inhaling hamlet cigars for a long time. Having been there for over a month (and nearly not coming back I might add), he hasn't actually had any access to nicotine for that time.

What I am looking for is a 0mg nicotine cigar flavour. I have found this in only a 30ml bottle of E-liquid in the red label section. Only this one bottle has the drop down option for 0mg, the rest only seem to have a choice of 8mg/11mg/18mg. What I'd really like is to find a 5ml bottle for him to try and if needs be step up to very low levels of nicotine if it isnt quite what he's after (I have heard without nicotine you dont get the hit on the throat, which may mean he wants to try a low level nicotine one).

Any help with that would be greatly appreciated... and also:

I am a bit confused about the whole refilling process (and the 'how to' video or page isnt loading!). Do these flavours need to be mixed with some sort of flavourless base liquid? Or can I just buy something I can refill with without having to premix anything?

thanks again and in advance of an help you can give :)

Hi Olly_el_nino, welcome to the forum ;D

You don't really need to buy a ready mixed no nicotine liquid, it's not hard to make your own using the links to the liquids below.

There are a few good cigar flavours in the Red Label Flavour concentrate range here these are just concentrated flavour with no nicotine in them
http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk/products/red-label-concentrates/5ml-red-label-concentrate-2-product.html

My own favourites are Cigar, Cohiba, Cherry Cigar, Black Tea.

You can make up your own non nicotine flavours for vaping, by using no nicotine AG here:
http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk/products/mixing-accessories/aqueous-glycerine-60ml-product.html

and no nicotine PG here:
http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk/products/mixing-accessories/propelyene-glycol-pharmacopoeia-grade-product.html

You then mix 2 parts flavour, 6 parts PG and 2 parts AG, this will make up a no nicotine tobacco flavour at 20% flavour.

I find the cigar and strong tobacco flavours still give quite a good throat hit without the nicotine, the PG content of the mix helps with this.

You can buy unflavoured nicotine here:
http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk/products/mixing-accessories/platinum-ice-54mg-10ml-mixing-juice-pg-product.html
I would suggest you buy the nicotine in a PG base

If you need to add nicotine to then you can uses a recipe like:
2 parts flavour 1 part nicotine 5 parts PG 2 parts AG, will give you a tobacco strength of 5.4mg and flavour of 20%

The 2 no nicotine liquids PG and AG control the amount of throat hit (PG) and vapour production (AG)

If you need more help, just let us know ;)

Good luck :)
Happy Vaping!!!  Jeff

Hello Olly_el_nino,
Welcome to the forum  :D

My favourite is black label Aromatic.

That taste like a good aromatic cigar, I simply love it  :D

But unfortunately they dont come in 0 nic.
If you mix yourself you can get DV Aromatic and mix it?

Spent £1323.89

Welcome to the forum Olly_el_nino  :)
That's a good thing you'll be doing for your dad, I hope he makes a quick recovery.
If he can get the satisfaction of a good vape without nicotine that will be perfect and it's not necessary to have nicotine for a throat hit or good flavour.
Astrecks has given the formula you'll need.
I wondered, are you familiar with vaping and/or mixing e-juice?
Whatever your experience there are always people here to answer any questions you might have, so let us know how you (and your dad) get on  ;)

Thank you everyone particularly Astrecks for your help with this. I think I must have been a tad confused as I was assuming the flavours had the nicotine in them, but nowhere listed whether they did or didn't.

Ok so just a few more questions... I understand that there are other base liquids that can be used other than PG and AG, like some vegetable based ones? What are the benefits of these? (sorry if this is all written somewhere already!)... and lastly, I'm thinking I'm probably going to need other paraphernalia to sort this all out, for example somewhere to store what I've mixed up maybe? Does this sort of thing come with the liquids, or do I need to buy them separate? Are there any other things that I don't know about that I might need?

Many thanks!

Well, the largest ingredients in the nicotine bases are Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG) as VG is very thick and syrupy it s thinned down with distilled water, and when this is done the VG is then known as Aqueous Glycerin (AG)

In the UK VG is easy to get from the pharmacy, but PG is less easy to get, because there really is not a use for it domestically but some pharmacies will stock it to order.

If you go to a pharmacy to buy it, it will just be known as glycerin, it can be used to sooth sore throats. You would need to thin glycerin down with distilled or deionised water at a rate of 85 parts Glycerin to 15 parts of distilled water. Distilled or deionised water can be bought from car spares shops it is used for topping up lead acid car batteries.

On the TW web page any liquids that have a drop down box for selecting the nicotine strength is a nicotine based liquid, it there is not a nicotine strength box to select strength then it is just a flavouring concentrate with no nictione in it, even if it is a tobacco flavour ;)
Happy Vaping!!!  Jeff

Be careful not to buy Glycerine linctus or Glycerine and Honey - these have sugar in, which will pretty soon fry your atomiser. Just look for plain "Glycerine BP", and you'll be fine :)

Nick O Teen - I just went for the Glycerine that Astrecks posted, hope this stuff is ok?

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone again, have just received my Tornado -T this morning, the battery is now charging, and soon to have a go at mixing some stuff up for my dad!

Just curious, but do you tend to mix up one tank at a time? Only I have the squeezy bottle with the syringe, and also bought a more accurate syringe. Not sure I could get away with storing excess mix in the squeezy bottle or not? and does anyone know rounghly how much a normal tank holds, is it 5ml?

Looking forward to testing this all out, will let you know how it goes! My dad has already smoked 2 cigars since he's been home (sigh!), you'd think he hadn't spent the last month on breathing apparatus for a bronchial illness related to smoking, stubborn fool! Anyway, he has no excuse now :)

Awesome, all seems to be working ok.

Only thing is the cigar flavour does seem very sweet, does anyone have any experience of the cigar flavours? Perhaps he should try a different one?

Might need to repost this to get the right people reading...

Hi Olly,
glad you have your kit up and running ok, are you and your dad sharing one, or have you one each?
There will be a bit of trial and error in the early days of finding a flavour, there are so many to choose from and each of us has different tastes, so in the long run you will need to try a few.... and in the short term you'll need to try a few!
You have a baseline now if you find your current flavour too sweet; others can suggest some different ones with different characteristics, but first....
what is the juice you're currently using? Is it what was supplied with the kit?
Once we know that, you may be luckier with responses and suggestions!
The right people are always here, but not everyone's awake just now!  ;)
